Kalanggaman Island: A Leyte's Hidden Gem

Aptly named “The Paradise Island”, the Kalanggaman Island is truly a serene paradise with clear turquoise waters, powdery white sands and cool breezes. Located off the shore of Palompon’s municipality, the Kalanggaman Island is a hidden gem that is fast becoming a major tourist attraction in the Leyte province. But what makes Kalanggaman Island impressive is by its magnificent sand bar.

Approaching the island. Horizon of the island began to get larger in our sights.

Crystal-clear shade of turquoise water with corals underneath.

Very beachy! Coconut palms and blinding white sand gleaming in the turquoise waters.

The surrounding of the beach is really calm, safe and truly relaxing.

Kayaks for rent.

Sandbar Jumpshot. Wohoooo!

HOW TO GET THERE
The nearest airport to this stunning beauty is Tacloban.
1. From airport, take a jeepney going to Tacloban downtown and find a van that goes to Palompon. Travel time going to Palompon will take for 3 hours or less.

2. Tell the driver you intend to go to Kalanggaman Island. They usually drop you at the municipal's hall. Behind the hall is the tourism office where boats to island are docked.

If you're coming from Ormoc City, take a van going to Palompon. And/or if you're coming from proper Cebu, take a fast craft/boat going to Ormoc.

WHERE TO STAY & EAT
Unlike other known resorts/island, Kalanggaman Island doesn't have restaurant, inns or hotels including electricity. Only cottages were offered so you better bring your own necessary things like food, drinking water, power bank etc. You may also bring your own tent if you want.

WHAT TO DO
The island offer recreational activities like kayaking, stand-up paddle, snorkeling and scuba diving.
